Workplace loyalty

In today’s workplace, loyalty is a rare commodity. When an employee shows great loyalty, it is often taken for granted, but it would be wise to remember that even the most loyal have their limits. Push a loyal person too hard, and you risk losing them.

Loyalty is usually built on trust, respect, and shared experiences. Every time you ask for more, it stretches that loyalty just a little. A loyal person will gladly stretch to accommodate your needs but push too far, and ultimately, they will break.

Pushing a loyal person to the brink often starts with taking their loyalty for granted. It’s assuming they’ll always be there, no matter how you treat them. Others often end up being the main priority, maybe without intention, but it should be remembered that loyalty requires nurturing and appreciation; otherwise, it withers away.

It’s vital to remember that everyone has their breaking point, even the most loyal among us. So, instead of thinking they will take anything and test those boundaries, look after the loyalty you receive. Show them you respect them by recognising how much you appreciate them; otherwise, you’ll find they’re gone.

We all need loyalty in the workplace; those are the people who often make the cogs of the organisation go around.
